Hair Styles Are Not One Size Fits All

image

There is nothing worse than creating a a hairstyle for a Bride who had her mind set on what she wanted, only to realize that is not the most flattering style for HER.

Not everyone’s facial features are best showed off with all their hair up and back. Not everyone’s hair has the dimension and color to expose the beautiful curls and twists in that gorgeous updo.

The images above are two hairstyles that are similar. They look very different however, because of the different color dimensions in the hair.

When choosing your Wedding Style, pick a couple different ideas you love and allow your Wedding Stylist some room to make your style unique and customized to you. Designing hair is an art. It is nearly impossible to create an exact duplicate of a photo. Different hair texture, hair health (frizzy, damaged, split ends, over processed,  overgrown hair color), hair length and hair color all play a big part in the final outcome.

This applies to your Bridesmaid’s Final look as well. Which I will be blogging about soon.

Beachy Wedding Hair Styles

Tiff Wddding

I just finished with the gorgeous Bride Miss Tiffany, and her Bridal Party! What a sweet group of girls.

It is music to my ears when I hear my Brides/Bridesmaids say “I Trust You” do what you think looks best.

Here Is Why:

1. 9 times out of 10, the picture of the hairstyle she has picked out is not similar at all to her own hair.

2. The photos usually handed to me only show what she wants the back of her hair to look like. Who is looking at the back of your head? Why are you spending so much time dwelling on the back of your head? We need to make sure you look great from the front, where your smiling faces are going to be in your family albums forever and ever.

3. Length. When I am handed a photo of this big beautiful full updo, from a Bride who has shoulder length, thin hair…. That’s when I have to wave my comb in front of her and say “This here is a comb. Not a Magic Wand”

4. Texture. When looking for hairstyles, keep in mind the texture has a lot to do with the outcome as well if you are wanting your hairstylist to duplicate from a photo. If you have frizzy, curly, long hair…. don’t show your stylist a photo of a style that is short, straight and sleek. If your hair is thin and straight as a board… don’t pick out a style that obviously requires a lot of hair to achieve the look.

5. Color. Hair with Highlights, looks completely different in an updo than hair with no highlights. That color dimension makes a huge difference.

My styles above in this photo, each one of the girls sat down in my chair and let me work my magic. No photos to show me. I asked them, up or down and where they part their bangs. From there I created them each their own unique style that worked with their hair and facial features.

So I would say give your Stylist some room to be creative, she may come up with something amazing that you never knew your hair would do 🙂

Now Booking For 2013 Weddings

Answers to Brides common Questions…

Is it common to remove the veil after the ceremony? I think I want to keep it on for the reception.

Don’t rush to remove your veil. A veil is that one element that transforms you from a woman in a white dress into a Bride. There is no written rule that the veil has to come off, in fact most Brides prefer the photographs of them wearing the veil when choosing pictures for print.

Is it true I dont wash my hair before the wedding?

Dirty hair is the secret to a long-wearing updo. This gives hair some grip so your style will stay in place all night!

I had my makeup done before but it seemes like a lot of makeup, I dont wear alot of makeup on a day to day basis.

Do a trial run for your Makeup, even if you don’t hire a pro. Makeup for flash photography is different than daily makeup application. It may look too dark at first glance, but after wearing it for a while, and having a friend take some photos with a flash you can see how your best features stand out in a photograph.

I cant decide if I want my hair to be in an elaborate Updo, or more natural.

Don’t stray too far from the real you. Experiment with different hairstyles, but then choose the one you are most comfortable with, the one that is most you. You don’t want to look back at photos of your special day and wonder “who is that?”

What about touching up my lip color after the Ceremony, before pictures with me and my husband or after eating?

Make sure your touch-up kit has all the right colors. I like for my Brides to bring their favorite Lip Liner and Color. You don’t want to realize later on during your wedding that you don’t have the right color for touch ups.

I have never had my eyebrows waxed, do you suggest this before my wedding?

Get your brows groomed by a professional. It makes such a difference in photos to have perfect brows!

Hair “I Do’s” and “I Dont’s”

We’ve all had them — hair catastrophes. A bad cut. A disastrous color. And our reactions are always the same. We cry. We panic. We commiserate with our girlfriends at midnight. We buy bad hair day hats until the whole mess grows out. But your beauty timeline clock is ticking and there is no room for impulsive moves. Check out our list of dos and don’ts to get your hair into shape without risking a wedding day follicle fiasco.

I DOs

  • Decide on a hairstyle before you choose your veil or headpiece.
  • Play with a few styles before finalizing your look.
  • Visit your hairstylist at least six months before the wedding to set up a hair care regimen.
  • Touch up your existing hair color two weeks before the wedding.
  • Prepare a hair emergency kit for reception touch ups.
  • Think about whether your hairstyle will hold up at an outdoor wedding.
  • Match your hairstyle to your gown in degree of formality.
  • Consider extensions and hairpieces to add volume for special hairstyles.
  • Plan special hairstyles for the bridal shower and rehearsal dinner.
  • Get a final trim two weeks before the wedding.
  • Wear a buttoned-down shirt to your wedding day hair session.
  • Talk to your hairstylist to set a shampooing and conditioning schedule for the days before the wedding.
  • Add a bit of glitter to your hair — just be sure to try it out in advance.
  • Invest in a good haircut. You’ll need less styling if you have a good foundation.
  • Decide if you will remove your veil after the ceremony. You’ll need to adjust your hairstyle accordingly.
  • Have your hairdresser practice with your veil tiara.

I DON’Ts

  • Make hairstyle changes within three months of the wedding.
  • Dye your hair at home.
  • Change your hair color within two months of the wedding.
  • Let anyone talk you into the latest style unless you really love it.
  • Choose a style that’s too structured — it will be impossible to maintain.
  • Go overboard on tendrils. If the curls droop, you’ll be left with messy hair.
  • Choose a large or overly ornate headpiece. You’re the star; not your tiara.
  • Use unfamiliar hair products on the big day — you could be allergic to them.
  • Wash your hair right before styling it — it may be too slippery to handle.
  • Have your hair styled too early before the ceremony — it’s a long day.
  • Use accessories that are too heavy for an updo.
  • Overload your hair with product.
